When it comes to planning your dream trip to the Amalfi Coast, timing is EVERYTHING. This iconic stretch of Italian coastline is stunning year-round (no surprise there), BUT there are some months that deliver that perfect combo of sunshine, fewer crowds, and more bang for your buck.
The sweet spot? May, early June, and September. In late spring and early fall, the Amalfi Coast weather is warm enough to sip a spritz at a beach club or soak up the sun on a boat tour, but without the peak-season crowds and inflated prices. It’s the ideal time to experience the magic of the Amalfi Coast at a slower pace, with milder temps that make even the steepest stairs a little more manageable.
July and August are the busiest (and hottest) months on the Amalfi Coast. If you’re all about crowded streets, lively beach clubs, and don’t mind splurging a bit, summer on the Amalfi Coast can be an unforgettable experience. Just make sure to book hotels, transportation, and restaurant reservations well in advance, as everything fills up quickly in peak season!
And if you’re thinking about a winter escape, keep in mind that many local businesses shut down from November through March. While the weather in Amalfi Coast this time of year isn’t ideal for beach clubs or boat tours, it could be a cozy and quiet way to experience the region from a more local perspective.

What NOT to pack for the Amalfi Coast
- The cobblestone streets and endless stairs in places like Positano will humble you fast. While heels might look cute for photos, they’re not the most practical choice. You can absolutely still look elevated and chic without them—and honestly, most people do. Instead, opt for sandals with a low block heel, ballet flats, espadrilles, or wedges for that “effortless Italian summer” look.
- Heavy makeup just doesn’t hold up well on the Amalfi Coast—especially after a full day of exploring in the heat & humidity. You’ll be much more comfortable sticking to lightweight, breathable products that give a natural glow. Plus, Italian beauty is all about a more effortless, minimal look, so you’ll actually fit right in keeping it simple. Think tinted moisturizer (or sunscreen), a little bronzer, and a glossy lip over a full glam moment.
- Overly tight or restrictive outfits just don’t make sense for the Amalfi Coast. You’ll be walking a lot, climbing stairs, and spending long days exploring, and the heat and humidity can make tight clothing feel even more uncomfortable. Amalfi Coast style is effortless and relaxed, so flowy dresses, linen sets, and breathable fabrics fit in much better. - The nightlife in the Amalfi Coast is A LOT different from that in the States, so there’s no need to go overboard with “going out” outfits. - I’ve seen SO many videos of people bringing their Dyson or other hair tools abroad, only to have them fry or stop working because they’re not dual voltage. Even with a plug adapter, some tools just can’t handle the difference in electricity.
